Yordas Cave Short Crawl Route [intermediate]

Please be advised that this route should probably be attempted by trained cavers with proper equipment. We completed the route in the interests of exploration and escaped injury although you will get wet and dirty.

The crawl tunnel is accessed through the small hole in the wall of the main chamber in the centre of the above image. The roof of this section is formed from sharp angular rock and you need to keep close to the ground until you are well into the next chamber.

After the crawl there are two exits, the forward one being mostly blocked by wooden boards and other detritus; probably by potholers, warning us that way is too dangerous. A small chamber to the left provides us a suitable exit.

After leaving to the left of the crawl section there is a narrow very high chamber, the lower section of which is blocked by a huge boulder jam.

It is possible to climb here and a floor is reached on top of the boulder jam. From here a passage to the left leads back to an opening in the main chamber near to the main cave entrance.

Climbing the boulder jam to reach the passage back to the main chamber. This rock is very wet and the floor is a slippery waterlogged mud. It is not advisable to climb without proper equipment.

Having completed this route we of course found that it is possible to reach the top of the boulder jam by reversing the route coming up the concealed small passage near the entrance to the main cave. It's hard to spot unless your coming out of it and is found by exploring behind the large mud deposits immediately to the left when entering the cave through the main entrance. Also 'stored' here will be found large wooden posts that could have once been used to shore up unstable sections of the cave during exploration in antiquity.
