Scottish Islands in Asknish Bay Photo

Panoramic composition showing Scottish islands and Asknish bay, shot from Arduaine viewpoint.

An excellent view but can present problems for the panorama photographer due to the extreme variation in light in this wide view. A tripod is recommended unless you have a rather fast shutter.

It is necessary to shoot a few test shots of the lightest part of the sky, the darkest and the mid range and then choose an exposure that you think will best serve both saving highlights from overexposure and still retaining enough light to safely rescue shadow detail. Camera Raw photographers will have the better advantage but for the best you could try the hard process of piecing together a panorama from a series of bracketed or HDR merged shots.

For a much easier alternative rattle off a few single shots of parts of the view or zoom into distant areas of detail if you have a long lens. There are several small boats in this picture that are clearly visible in the large full resolution version.

There are other interesting views to be had by looking to the right of this image but there can be some tree tops in the forground that may hamper your choices.
