View from Achnabreck Photo

A difficult pan shot can be taken from near to the prehistoric rock carvings at Achnabreck. In these lighting conditions it is almost impossible to save highlights and retain shadow detail but you might have an easier time in different weather, although perhaps less dramatic.

I was able to make this picture by capturing a large series of bracketed shots then combining as a semi-HDR merge to compose a panorama. The result is slightly more surreal than my usual preference, but then the scene is rather surreal when viewed with the eye. A very long lens might have gotten more from the sunlight on the water but this is quite easily visible in the full resolution photograph.

There are several pine tree tops to contend with and it isn’t really possible to show more foreground.
